Individuals who have a diagnosis of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). Signs of CAS include:
Not saying the words the same way each time
Inappropriate stress on syllables or words, intonation sounds different
Sound distortions, especially with vowel sounds
Short words may sound better than longer words or sentences
Limited speech sound inventory

Dynamic ongoing assessment, touch prompts when appropriate, visual cues, and use of the Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing hierarchy. The speech-language pathologist will support the child in planning the movements needed to say sounds and ensure accurate movements in speech. For some children, Augmentative and Alternative Communication may also be considered in accompaniment of working on oral speech.
